A Man Needs A Workshop

Hi, I’m Scott Herrick and welcome to Culaccino. I’ve called this site my culinary workshop as a fond reminder of the thousands of hours I spent in a woodworking shop with my dad growing up in Ohio.

I don’t have the luxury of that workshop here in Switzerland, but the concepts are the same as cooking–sourcing great raw materials, having tools at the ready, building skills over many years, and the creativity and persistence to deliver a finished product.

What's In A Name?

Culaccino is the Italian word for a wet mark left on a table by a (wine) glass.

Some Things About Me

      • I’ve been living in Zurich, Switzerland for more than 20 years, and originally I’m from Ohio, USA.

      • I work full time as a leader in digital transformation and change management in financial services, and going way back, I spent the first 10 years of my career as a software engineer.  I did my undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering/Computer Science at Ohio State University and later a Global Executive MBA from IESE in Spain (with studies in Barcelona, Silicon Valley, and Shanghai). I write about transformation and executing strategy at Captured Value.

      • My other passion is triathlon and endurance sports and I’m a certified IRONMAN triathlon coach and Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS).  I have been a triathlete since 1993 and has since completed multiple IRONMANs, marathons and shorter distance events.  If you’re interested in triathlon, but haven’t done a race yet, I’ve published a free Beginner Olympic Distance Triathlon Training Plan at abetteranimal.com

      • On weekends when I’m not in the kitchen, I can be found outside in the nearby Alps, hiking, snowshoeing, skiing with my partner Emily.
